Iceland Airwaves 2010 – Acts and Playlist

Our favourite festival have announced a big part of the names for this year’s program, and it looks promising already. It’s no secret that we are very much looking forward to the festival!

Among the Icelandic names this year, you’ll find For A Minor Reflection, Who Knew, Agent Fresco, Bloodgroup, Hjaltalín, Hjálmar, Mugison and our friends from Retro Stefson. Last but not least it’s worth mentioning the legends from S.H. Draumur who will make a comeback at Iceland Airwaves 2010.

On the bill you’ll find some great international acts as well, among these are Robyn, Hurts, Moderat, The Antlers and many more.

We are very much looking forward to seeing what other bands are being added to the line-up in the next couple of weeks.

If you’re curious about some of these acts, we’ve added them to a playlist on Grooveshark and embedded a player below to satisfy your curiosity:

There were some acts that weren’t present on Grooveshark, but here are links to their MySpace pages: Biggibix, Captain Fufanu, Cliff Clavin, Diddi Fel, DLX ATX, Emmsjé Gauti, Endless Dark, Everything Everything, Film, Hundreds, Jaakko and Jay, Lára, Lights On The Highway, Me, The Slumbering Napoleon, Nolo, Oculus, Of Monsters & Men, Ourlives, Pascal Pinon, Sudden Weather Change, Útidúr.

Ham and S.H. Draumur don’t have music online.

This list and the Grooveshark playlist will be updated as acts are announced.

Kúra – Catchy Electro Pop From Iceland

I was recently recommended the band Kúra from Reykjavík, and I must admit I’m pretty hooked.

You don’t find much information about the band. But what we do know is that the band members are Fanney Ósk Þórrisdóttir and Brynjar Bjarnfoss. The music is best described as floating electro pop of the finest kind. They are currently working on their debut album, but until then you can check out three of their tracks on Soundcloud.

This is my favourite:

Sleepless In Reykjavik – Episode 1

Sleepless In Reykjavik is a new series of WebTV shows, which mission is to give all you music addict some Icelandic dope.

So follow along as Gunnar Guðbjörnsson is covering various Icelandic bands in their studios and on the road, as they are touring the cold North Atlantic. His goal is to be where the action is happening and capture some great moment for you to enjoy.

We’ll be looking forward to a new episode each month!

This first episode begins with a little focusing on the hardcore/metal scene in Reykjavik, but also features a clip with one of our personal favorites Ólafur Arnalds, as well as a story about our prefered music store, gogoyoko.

If you feel like contributing to this project, feel free to visit Sleepless In Reykjavik on Indiegogo.

Exclusive Mínus concert

The Icelandic hard rock band Mínus is playing a exclusive concert in Copenhagen on saturday at Nordatlantens Brygge.

Mínus has been around since 1999 where they released their first album called “Hey Johnny!” and since they released three other albums, the latest in 2007. Now they are working on a new album, but before it’s released they will play a couple of concerts.

The band has also been touring a lot and has supported acts like Foo Fighters, Metallica, Queen of The Stone Age and Muse.

Expect therefore a massive, heavy and noisy performance on saturday with new unreleased stuff along with all the old classics.

Tickets can be bought from Politikenbillet and cost 90 kr.

Who Knew?

Who KnewIt began four years ago when the Icelandic indie band Who Knew formed in Reykjavík. The six piece band teamed up in a heat-less garage in Reykjavík, and from there they seem to have practiced a lot. I come to this conclusion after having the opportunity of listening to their forthcoming debut album Bits And Pieces of a Major Spectacle. Without having made anything groundbreaking, they have achieved a very appealing and attractive sound.

The album have been recorded partly in the Sigur Rós studio Sundlaugin and their own studio Stúdíó Skjön. Release of the album will be this spring.

We’d like to give you the chance to preview Who Knew’s debut album as well. So listen to Sharpen the Knife right here:
